Smart Kitchens, Mindful Kitchens
How can smart devices in the kitchen help us to adapt to unpredictable lifestyles and become more mindful consumers?
By using technology, such as AI, smart devices in kitchens are helping consumers make more informed and intelligent decisions around eating and shopping.
Hello Egg is a smart meal planning device that lets you automate your weekly meals and grocery trips. Using an integrated AI app called Eggspert, it will arrange meals according to set dietary and weekly preferences and will even adjust meal plans for surprise drop-in guests.
Targeted predominantly at time-poor millennials, the device's main purpose is to revive home cooking and as an added bonus, it can order your grocery for direct delivery, stream music, deliver weather updates and provide step-by-step video tutorials.
From smart meal planning to smart garbage, the GeniCan saves users time and money by scanning rubbish as you toss it, then automatically adds the item to your mobile grocery list. The device itself fits neatly into the top of your trash can, and for items without barcodes can be activated by voice control, making it completely handsfree.
Ultimately, the device is attempting to minimise excessive trips to the grocery store and as a result saves punters money by encouraging them to purchase only what they will use. Also, by partnering with external grocery delivery services, GeniCan can initiate automatic delivery, eliminating the need to go to the store entirely.
Hello Egg and GeniCan are helping people make more mindful decisions about how they approach food. Worldwide, we currently waste around 1.3 billion tons of food annually... yes, tons, and by taking the guess work out of meal planning and streamlining the ingredient buying process, both of these devices are doing their part to take the pressure off the world's resources.
As such, there's an opportunity for companies to embrace a more mindful approach to food and offer new products and services that are both flexible to the needs of time-poor consumers and environmentally conscious.
