From smart meal planning to smart garbage, the GeniCan saves users time and money by scanning rubbish as you toss it, then automatically adds the item to your mobile grocery list. The device itself fits neatly into the top of your trash can, and for items without barcodes can be activated by voice control, making it completely handsfree. 

Ultimately, the device is attempting to minimise excessive trips to the grocery store and as a result saves punters money by encouraging them to purchase only what they will use. Also, by partnering with external grocery delivery services, GeniCan can initiate automatic delivery, eliminating the need to go to the store entirely.
