We’re an innovation consultancy. We help our clients change. We come up with new products, business models, brands, services, delivery innovation, and processes… so it’s pretty varied. Innovation Director

We’re looking for an intellectual sparring partner who can lead client relationships, crunch tricky innovation challenges and inspire & nurture the innovation capability of those around them. This is a highly influential role for someone with a passion and proven track record in innovation and the desire to make their own mark as part of the leadership team of both How To Impact and the Deepend Group.

What will you do?

Lead innovation projects
With a core focus on product/category design, experience design, service design, innovation strategy & training. The right candidate will have direct experience in a variety of design-thinking disciplines – from strategy, to insight definition, concept development and test & learn prototyping.
- plan the structure and content of diverse projects from fast turnaround workshops to complex innovation platform development projects
- co-ordinating internal and external resources required to deliver project, including development of new partner-supplier networks
- challenge & stretch thinking through facilitated sessions and insightful documentation in order to clarify growth opportunities, the development of inspiration insights and solutions
- think creatively, generate original and whole ideas and manage the process of implementation planning
- generate growth strategies & executions across the 10 types of innovation and negotiate the commercial landscape to make those ideas a reality
- offer counsel and continuity, and look to identify the next challenge.

Capability
- train client teams on innovation, using existing and bespoke content

Client development & management
- building, managing & growing client relationships into client partnerships that involve innovation discussions at a deeper and broader level in line with business development goals
- nurturing your extended network to push beyond our existing client base
- maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction

Inspire and coach H2i team
- help develop and nurture our team
- help source and recruit A-team talent

Profile-building & Marketing
- co-development of marketing plan for promotion of current offer, including profile-building programme, speaking engagements and regular thought leadership articles

IP Development
- add value to existing IP base
- look for opportunities to extend our offer

Innovation Strategist

Key Responsibilities

1. Co-plan and run innovation projects from disruptive thinking, to experience design and rapid prototyping:

  • Plug into innovation projects as the strategic smarts between project leader and project managers
  • A discovery mindset and an understanding of how to explore Desirability, Viability and Feasibility (DVF) 
  • Generate growth strategies, original solutions and implementation plans
  • Empathy skills and the ability to unearth innovation insights
  • Plug into UX and experience design
  • Flexibility across strategic workshops, rapid prototyping and disruptive innovation

…but roll your sleeves up and get stuff done

  • With project managers, build internal and external innovation ecosystems
  • Help challenge & stretch thinking through facilitated sessions and persuasive documentation
  • Plan & run consumer insight sessions
  • Desire to test & learn and ‘be’ the user

2. Client nurture:

  • Help to grow client relationships into client partnerships that involve innovation discussions at a deeper
  • Push beyond our existing briefs
  • Coach/train clients through collaborative working

3. Support our company development and business development drive:

  • Develop thought leadership content for profile-building
  • Manage proposal development process and presentations to follow up on existing leads and establishing client and industry contacts
  • Looking to generate new opportunities, networks and collaborations wherever possible

4. IP and capability:

  • Support role in innovation training, using existing and bespoke content
  • Add value to existing IP base & lead embedding of rapid prototyping in IP and training materials
  • Look for opportunities to extend our offer

Skills & Experience
We’re looking for:

  • Innovation strategists who can identify and act on inspiring insights
  • Hands-on exponents of experience design and familiarity with UX strategy
  • Intellectual sparring partners – able to think laterally, analytically and quickly
  • Innovators who can take project teams into difficult challenges, entertain a positive spirit of ambiguity when necessary and certainty when required
  • Compelling communicator and facilitators who can build compelling written arguments as well as think on their feet

Intern

If you’re smart, switched on, and eager to get hands-on experience in an innovation consultancy, we’d love to hear from you. Each day we come up with new products, business models, brands, services, delivery innovation, and processes… so it’s pretty varied. Think of it as a mix of research, strategy consultancy, design, and branding – but not quite any of them.
Come in to meet us and we’ll show you what we mean.

The Role
This is an opportunity for you to see what we do, get an overview of our tools and the world of innovation, and be exposed to a wide variety of clients. In your time with us you’re likely to:
·       Help us prepare for creative workshops
·       Feed into internal brainstorming sessions
·       Carry out research that will feed into live briefs
·       Develop material for sessions, including moodboards and other creative stimulus
·       Write documents that will be published online, including trend reports
·       Attend consumer and / or expert research sessions
·       Help manage the day-to-day running of the office
